Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date Slips to After March 2025, Analysts Say
Fans of the highly popular video game series, Grand Theft Auto, will have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. According to analysts at Wedbush Securities, the game is now expected to be released after March 2025, based on publisher Take-Two’s latest earnings guidance. This news comes as a disappointment to many who were eagerly awaiting the game’s release.
The analysts, Nick McKay and Michael Pachter, expressed their belief that the game has slipped out of its previously anticipated early 2025 release window. Take-Two recently revised its guidance for the next fiscal year (FY25), which spans from April 2024 to March 2025. In a research note titled ‘$7 Billion Means No GTA in FY:25’, the analysts stated, “We can only surmise that GTA VI has slipped out of FY:25, in-line with our earlier expectation.”
The downward revision in Take-Two’s guidance suggests that the company’s next fiscal year bookings will be just over $7 billion, significantly lower than the initial comments of $8 billion made in May. This drop in projected revenue leads the analysts to believe that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be releasing within the next fiscal year. However, they do not rule out the possibility of a release later in calendar year 2025.
Despite the delay, fans were treated to a glimpse of what’s to come with the release of the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in December. The trailer garnered an impressive 90 million views within just 24 hours, further fueling excitement for the upcoming game. The trailer confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and will feature Vice City, a fictional representation of Miami, as one of its main locations. Additionally, the game will introduce a unique twist to the series by featuring a female protagonist alongside a male counterpart.
Take-Two also took the opportunity to celebrate the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, which has shipped over 195 million units since its release in 2013. The franchise as a whole has shipped over 420 million units since its inception in 1997, solidifying its position as one of the most successful video game franchises of all time.
While the delay in the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 may be disappointing for fans, it is important to remember that Rockstar Games, the developer behind the series, is known for delivering high-quality games that are worth the wait. As we eagerly anticipate further updates and announcements, it is clear that Grand Theft Auto 6 will continue to captivate audiences with its immersive gameplay, stunning visuals, and innovative storytelling.
