Grand Mosque of Reims Mobilizes for Donations and Support After Tragic Earthquake

After the tragedy, time for meditation and solidarity. Two days after the earthquake which struck southern Morocco on Friday September 8, causing the death of more than 2,000 people, the Grand Mosque of Reims is mobilizing and calling for donations.

“It’s our dutysays Driss Jamil, president of the Grand Mosque of Reims. We must act when there is a tragic event of this kind. We are here and we always will be.”

“We cannot stand idly by” – Driss Jamil

Through posters posted all over the Mosque, the faithful are concretely called to donate money to help the victims and their families on site : “This is the first step until the end of the week, continues Driss Jamil. Friday is an important day for us, it is a special prayer, there are people and this day will be reserved for collection.”

The president of the place is also thinking about the following: “The second step will be the collection of other needs such as blankets, tents, food, water, diapers, cans of food… We will see later how to transport all of this to Morocco.”

A humanitarian association in the Marrakech region managed by a former student from Reims, friend of Driss Jamil, will be responsible for collecting donations of money and materials. “He described to me the situation there, and it’s catastrophic, dramatic. People live outside. It was he who told me what to collect here, and what could help them there- down.
