Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Nazaruddin Umar admitted that he had never dreamed of holding a political position amid the issue of becoming Ganjar Pranowo’s running mate for 2024. PDIP DPP chairman Nusyirwan Soejono said it was good if a figure had not thought of becoming a vice presidential candidate like Nasaruddin Umar.
“It would be great if there were figures who had not thought of becoming vice president, like Nasaruddin Umar,” Nusyirwan told journalists, Thursday (18/5/2023).
According to Nusyirwan, if the character has never thought of becoming a vice presidential candidate, then he will do his job sincerely. In addition, he said society needs leaders who have sufficient experience.
“So that what has been done so far has been done sincerely without the interest of personal desires. Facing the challenges ahead requires leaders with sufficient experience or maturity and a good track record,” he said.
Apart from experience, Nusyirwan said that a leader also needs a good track record. He considered Nasaruddin Umar to be a figure with a good track record.
“I think Pak Nasaruddin Umar has a good track record,” he said.
Previously, the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Nazaruddin Umar included in the discussion of Ganjar Pranowo’s reading and presidential exchange. Nasaruddin Umar opened his voice regarding this matter.
Nasaruddin admitted that he did not know anything about developments if his name appeared on the Ganjar reading and presidential exchange because he had just arrived from Jeddah after attending an Islamic conference. Even so, he said he had never dreamed of holding political office.
“I’ve never had a dream. I don’t know the progress yet, so I’ve been there all this time, I haven’t gone that way, I’ve done a lot of things but not to target political positions, I like behind the scenes,” said Nasaruddin when contacted, Tuesday (16/5/2023).
Nazaruddin Umar said he was only obsessed with how to create coolness and calm in the life of the nation and state. Because of that, what he did was inseparable from the issue.
“My obsession is how to create coolness and calm in the life of the nation and state in Indonesia, because it is impossible for us to develop this country if we are in conflict, sucking up unnecessary energy,” he said.
“Negative energy does not support the realization of national strength. Let’s spread positive energy. So my issue so far has been the issue of coolness, peace, tolerance and so on, we are trying to do something, to synergize the citizens of this nation,” he continued.
