Grand Est Salaried Employment Sees Drop of 0.2% in Q2 2023: INSEE Report

Bad times for salaried employment: for the first time in a long time, the Grand Est is seeing a drop in activity in this area, to the tune of 0.2%. This figure is, after that of Guadeloupe, the highest in France for the second quarter of 2023, according to an economic report just published by INSEE. This drop is equivalent to 3,700 jobs, while the trend elsewhere in France is towards stagnation.

According to the authors of the study, this reduction reflects in particular the drop in temporary employment of around 0.3%. Only the accommodation-catering and information-communication sectors remain positive with a total number of employees up 0.5% and 0.7%.

At 7.1%, the unemployment rate in the Grand Est, however, remains lower than the national average of 7.2% in mainland France. It displays significant disparities depending on the territory, rising to 8% in Mulhouse.

Furthermore, the number of companies created during the second quarter of 2023 is also down 1%. But economic failures are on the rise, reinforcing the indications of a hardening of the economic situation.
