Grand Central Véo Cinema in Colomiers: Award-Winning and Sustainable Movie Experience

Just two years after its inauguration by actress and director Julie Gayet, the Grand Central Véo cinema in Colomiers continues to win prizes and awards. After being ranked among the ten most beautiful cinemas in the world in May 2023 by Ideat magazine, it has just received the Architecture Occitanie 2023 Public Prize. A building labeled “sustainable and low carbon”, the Colomiers cinema was built from biosourced materials.

“We were very happy with the prize awarded by Ideat, ranking the Grand Central Véo among the ten most beautiful cinemas in the world, and we are particularly proud of this new distinction,” rejoices Karine Traval-Michelet, mayor of Colomiers and vice-president from Toulouse Métropole. “This award is doubly important for us: first because we were pre-selected by a jury of architects, then because it is the Public Prize. The Grand Central Véo appeals to both professionals and spectators: it’s a magnificent success!”

A success which is verified by the attendance which has increased by no less than 356% with nearly 140,000 spectators since the start of 2023, compared to 38,000 over the same period in 2019 in the old cinema on rue du Center. It should be noted that the Colomiers cinema has gone from two to five rooms and that it offers 769 seats, among the most comfortable in the city.
