Nail on head.
To be able to judge your position on microtransactions in a game, only one question is important: How much do I have to play to earn the in-game credits?
If you have to race for a night or two and then have enough credits to buy your next car, it’s not that bad.
It can even be extremely nice for people who have little time to play, but still want to race in a supercar or classic.
On the other hand, if you have to play for hundreds of hours to collect enough, you are almost forced, and you get pay2win, in a way.
Now I expect it to be okay. Just like Nintendo, Sony has quite a good track record to keep playing fun in itself. They are much less cash grabbing than the other publishing giants such as EA, Activision and Ubisoft.
The gamer generally comes first. And because this is a very important title for Playstation, they are really not going to throw a name and brand to grab a few whales.
