A chocolate maker who transports his cocoa on an astonishing sailboat: this is the concept of Grain de Sail. This cargo sailboat, unique in the world, leaves for its second transatlantic: from Saint-Malo to New York.

  • 72ft / 22m aluminum monohull (24.24m overall)
  • 50 ton loading capacity in the hold
  • Green energy refrigerated hold with a storage capacity of 28 pallets
  • Schooner type rigging
  • 4 to 6 deckchairs / year (2 to 3 complete loops)
  • Crew: 4 professional sailors

A DESIGN IN THE RULES OF ART

After almost 4 years of research and development, we have designed a modern cargo sailboat that is fully adapted to our needs: Our ship meets international shipping standards certified by independent experts: Bureau Véritas and the Center de Sécurité des Ships. It complies with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) and STCW (International Convention on Standards for the Training of Seafarers) regulations. Under the RIF flag (French International Register) it is registered in Marseille, but its home port remains Saint-Malo.

CONCEPTION

  • Designed according to the French divisions for a cargo vessel (D222 – professional standards)
  • Aluminum structure approved by Bureau Veritas (NR600 – professional standards)
  • Lead bulb with external composite protection
  • Double suspended rudders

RIGGING

  • Schooner type rigging with equal masts
  • 9/10 anodized aluminum masts placed on the deck
  • 3 levels of spreaders
  • Anodized aluminum booms
  • Single-strand stainless steel standing rigging

COCKPIT

  • Cockpit protected aft of the closed standby station
  • All maneuvers brought back to the cockpit

FITTINGS

  • 4 manual winches size 65
  • 2 size 70 electric winches
  • Sufficient number of pulleys and ascenders

MOORING – ANCHORING

  • Vertical electric windlass 24V – 2700W
  • 2 approved moorings according to division 222
  • Self-draining chain well with pitons
  • 6 bollards doubles en aluminium

  • Mainsail and foresail, full batten, 3ris
  • Furling genoa

DECK STORAGE

  • 2 lockers in the coachroof for rafts

  • 1 box in the coachroof for winches and handling equipment
