Graham Potter I haven’t found the right game pack yet Chelsea. He still continues to experiment with the London Blue Team. However, the experiment ended badly.
Chelsea fell 0-1 when they visited Newcastle United’s home St James Park in the Premier League continued match early morning Sunday (13/11/2022) WIB. The Magpies’ only goal was set up by Joe Willock in the second half.
This defeat saved the Blues from a run of bad results under Graham Potter. Chelsea have recorded three defeats in a row.
Under Potter, Chelsea appear to have failed to find the right standard of play. Potter still often switches Chelsea’s basic formation between three backs or four backs.
The English coach has used three different formations in his last three matches. They use 4-2-3-1, 3-4-3 and 3-4-2-1.
In the match against Newcastle, Chelsea initially implemented the 3-4-2-1 formation as mentioned above. This formation then changed to a 4-3-3 after that Ruben Loftus-Cheek And Caesar Azpilicueta.
This change of tactics did not go well. Newcastle took advantage of this situation to score the winning goal.
Former Chelsea player turned pundit Craig Burley is surprised Potter is still experimenting with his team. One of Potter’s decisions that Burley considered strange in the match against Newcastle was to start Lewis Hall and leave him on the bench Mark Cucurella which has resulted in £60m this season.
Hall, who is an 18-year-old young player, was originally planned to be a left-back. Potter replaced him with Cucurella in the second half to play at left-back with a back four.
One of the concerns is: if I spend 60 million euros as a full-back and play against the young Lewis Hall, who is playing against Manchester City this week. Considering that the player comes from a club that I have previously coached and know very well, this is a very worrying sign” Burley said as quoted by ESPN.
“I’m [Chelsea] look bad again [pada hari Sabtu],” he explained.
The defeat at Newcastle puts Chelsea currently in eighth place. They collected 21 points in 14 games.
