A woman who wanted to get her hands on Elvis’ Graceland estate has been arrested in the US state of Missouri. As the judicial authorities announced on Friday, the 53-year-old had forged documents according to which the late daughter of the King of Rock and Roll, Lisa Marie Presley, had borrowed 3.8 million US dollars (3.29 million Swiss francs) from a company called Naussany Investments in 2018 and had used her father’s estate as collateral.
Since the singer’s only daughter had not paid off the debt, the now arrested woman demanded that the property be sold. A foreclosure auction of Graceland was scheduled to take place in May, but a judge in the state of Tennessee stopped the auction of the Memphis property at the last minute after Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, actress Riley Keough, filed a lawsuit citing the forged loan documents.
If convicted, the arrested woman faces a prison sentence of more than 20 years. Among other things, she is accused of forging the signature of Elvis’ daughter, who died in January 2023, and a notary in Florida. Elvis Presley died in the property, which is now a museum, in August 1977.
