In the most recent city council meeting not only resolutions were passed, but there was also an informative contribution: Renate Knaut, educational director of the VHS Rhn and Grabfeld, and city councilor Frank Helmerich, who is part of the project team, presented the committee in the presence of VHS managing director Florian Schmitt presented the K2 cultural networks project in municipalities and regions from 2018 to 2020.
First, Renate Knaut explained what the K 2 project is all about. It is part of the accompanying structure of the funding program Culture Makes Strong Alliances for Education and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since 2013, numerous projects in the alliance of the museums in the Schranne, the vhs Rhn 8 and Grabfeld and the JuZ have been funded. In spring 2018, the application to participate in the K2 project followed. Shortly afterwards, Bad Knigshofen was selected as one of only six municipalities and districts, with the Federal Academy for Cultural Education Wolfenbttel acting as the project sponsor in cooperation with the Free University of Berlin.
Strengthen educational networks
Frank Helmerich addressed the goals of the K 2 project. The aim is to strengthen the cultural education networks in the municipality and develop concepts for culture and education further through technical advice from the Federal Academy. After the formation of a project team that included representatives from schools, the city and the city council, the vhs, the museums in the Schranne and the Grabfeld Alliance, the project was tackled in September 2018 with a two-day workshop, which was followed by more . According to Renate Knaut, the outstanding campaign followed a few months later: the 1st Grabfelder leisure mile on March 1, 2020, just in time for the first Corona lockdown. In the Frankentherme there were almost 30 information stands from associations, groups and project groups, where children and young people were offered a wide variety of hands-on activities.

Lots of positive feedback
Because of the good response and a lot of positive feedback, there will be a new edition of the leisure mile in the foreseeable future, according to Helmerich. In any case, the work of the K2 team should be continued with an even greater participation of young people. At the request of City Councilor Sabine Rhein, Helmerich mentioned the introduction of a KN app for young people or various art projects as other specific projects. City councilor Steffen Ott suggested that young people from abroad should also be involved in the project work.
