Grab Wins & Fines from KPPU Rp.49 Billion Canceled

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Grab’s attorney, Hotman Paris Hutapea, claims that the South Jakarta District Court (PN) has canceled the sanctions set by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) against Grab Indonesia and PT Teknologi Penggawai Indonesia (TPI).

“Hotman Paris, a team of lawyers and clients representing Grab and TPI today to the South Jakarta District Court and winning Grab against KPPU. So KPPU’s decision was canceled and Grab won,” said Hotman Paris in a video received by CNBC Indonesia, Saturday (26/9 / 2020).

Hotman added that previously Grab was convicted by the KPPU because it was considered to control the market and there was discrimination in the form of giving priority orders, suspend period and other facilities. As well as being punished with a fine of Rp. 49 billion.

“According to the South Jakarta District Court, Grab does not control the market, does not discriminate, and all fines of Rp. 49 billion were canceled. Grab won with the Hotman Paris team and clients.

Previously, the KPPU assembly on July 2, 2020, stated that Grab and its partner, PT Technology Transportation Indonesia (TPI), had violated Article 14 and Article 19 (d) of Law Number 5 of 1999.

However, there has been no confirmation from the KPPU regarding the claim from Grab regarding the South Jakarta court decision.
