GPU deliveries according to JPR increased by almost 39% year-on-year

Although GPUs appear to be a very scarce commodity, according to Jon Peddie Research (JPR), there has been a significant year-on-year increase in their shipments. The company writes that for the first quarter of this year (Q1 / 2021) it was delivered 119 million GPUs, which is a decent year – on – year increase of 38.74% compared to Q1 / 2020. This is also due to the fact that many people work from home and there was a 49% year-on-year increase in laptop sales to 89 million units. Recall that a year ago, the coronavirus pandemic slowly began, which later affected production and was one of the many pieces of the puzzle leading to the unavailability of graphics cards, which continues in regular sales to this day. Compared to the previous quarter (Q4 / 2020), there was a slight decrease of 0.3%. JPR adds that there is usually a 7% decline after the Christmas season, so despite the decline, we are doing better than usual.

According to the survey, Nvidia has a huge 81% share in the market for standalone GPUs (for standalone graphics cards) (75% a year ago), and AMD takes only 19% (25% a year ago). These ratios coincide with numbers published a few days ago as well Mercury Research. As for the representation of stand-alone GPUs in the overall GPU market, it is 26%. Most GPUs are thus in integrated form.

If the whole GPU market is taken, then thanks to the integrated GPUs in processors, Intel is clearly leading. It even improved year-on-year from 66.91% to 68.18%. With the advent of standalone GPe Xe, its share may increase even more. AMD lost only slightly, from last year’s 16.69% to 16.65% (the fall was probably mitigated by the Ryzens with integrated GPU), while Nvidia had the biggest fall from 16.4% to 15.17%.
