A gain of autonomy of 10 to 15 percent for a technology brought to develop
The quest for autonomy is one of the main challenges for manufacturers of outdoor sports GPS watches.
When the Fenix 6 was released, Garmin had caused a stir by marketing a “Solar” model at the very top of its range (€ 949 all the same…). It is certainly not yet a question of energy autonomy thanks to solar recharging but indeed of a gain of the order of 10 to 15% depending on the sunshine. A detail for some, an interesting perspective for others or even an essential for the most demanding ultra trail runners. But the technology is attracting and is more than likely to develop in the years to come.
As proof, Garmin has just announced the extension of solar charging to its entire fenix 6 range, its most successful outdoor watch, but also to its Instinct and Tactix models.
