GPs want a new Consultation Committee before Friday: “Not intervening now will lead to third wave and new lockdown”

That high number of consultations does not bode well, Van Giel knows. “In the previous wave, we were two weeks ahead of the hospitals.” The GPs therefore think now is the time to intervene. A new Consultation Committee must take place as soon as possible to take additional corona measures, says Van Giel. And that must be faster than next Friday, when the Consultation Committee will normally take place.

“The infections are happening today and then you have to take measures today”, says Van Giel. We will not get there with what was decided during the previous Consultation Committee on Friday. “Then the curve just continues to slip. It’s painful to determine.”

If we do not act now, we will go to a third wave, Van Giel assures us. “It’s as if some want to wait to prove whether or not that third wave will be there. You should not wait until you have proof that you were indeed right that there was a third wave, because then you know that you are hopelessly late and we have gone again for weeks to get it down to get.”
