The results are entered directly into the electronic file of each patient

GPs can now issue electronic referrals for all types of tests or medical diagnostic activities. They completely replace the existing paper documents.

This was announced on Friday by the state company “Information Services”. All 900 codes for the various studies have already been entered into the electronic system, the company boasted. Until now, the jeeps released electronically only the document for antigen or PCR test for COVID, but after the outbreak of the epidemic, the system was closed.

So far, 38,000 documents have been generated, explained Information Services.

3600 are general practitioners who work with the system,

and the most issued destinations are in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas and Varna. A total of 302,000 patients received their referrals electronically.

With the change, all the results of the tests will be sent directly to the electronic medical file of each patient. They can be accessed by doctors or by the patient with a qualified electronic signature.

With the integration of all codes for medical-diagnostic activities in the system we have made another successful step in the construction of e-health in Bulgaria, explained the executive director of “Information Services” Ivaylo Filipov. According to him, e-referrals save a lot of time and costs for patients, doctors and laboratories and significantly increase the quality of medical services.

The goal of putting the e-directions into operation at the beginning of April was set by the chairman of the parliamentary health committee Assoc. Prof. Anton Tonev before “24 Chasa”. He announced the next step in e-health in connection with the release of the health file, which is expected to take place at the end of the year. According to the ideas of the government

then it will be possible for patients to be untied by their GPs

and to be treated by many specialists in general medicine.

When the electronic health file is released in its full version, it will contain not only laboratory tests, but also all examinations by doctors. It will also describe if the patient has been treated in hospital. All doctors will have access to this file, who will see the entire health history of the patient. It will be possible to be checked by the patient, but only with an electronic signature.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health released a draft ordinance on the functioning of the National Health Information System. It is maintained by the Ministry of Health, as it collects and processes information about the health status of people and was created under the Health Act. The aim is for citizens to be able to track their data as well

to exercise control

in need. At the same time, patient care time is reduced, healthcare controls are increased and financial costs are reduced.

The money with which the NHIF was built is provided from the state budget. BGN 9,862,000 are provided under the budget of the Ministry of Health for the period 2020-2022.
