GP Ansor asks Ministry of Home Affairs not to renew FPI permit

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Garda Pemuda (GP) Ansor, an affiliated organization of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) urges the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian does not issue a license to extend the organization to the Islamic Defenders Front (REIT).

Chief Regional Leader GP Ansor DKI Jakarta, Saiful Dasuki, said that currently FPI is a formless organization because it does not yet have a permit. FPI’s Registered Certificate (SKT) at the Ministry of Home Affairs has indeed expired since June 20, 2019.

FPI has proposed an extension, but until now the Ministry of Home Affairs has not extended the validity period of SKT as a mass organization, even though it has a recommendation from the Ministry of Religion.

Without SKT, FPI will not receive financial assistance from the government and only have association status.

Saiful asked the Ministry of Home Affairs not to extend the permit to FPI.

“FPI itself still does not have the extension of the permit, so the Minister of Home Affairs should not have extended the FPI permit because it is considered a threat to the unity of the nation and state,” said Saiful in his statement as quoted by CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (21/11).

Saiful also touched on the discourse of dissolving FPI, as expressed by the Jayakarta Military Commander, Major General TNI Dudung Abdurachman. Although the dissolution of mass organizations is not within the authority of the TNI, he supports the idea of dissolving if FPI is deemed to have threatened the state.

“The dissolution of mass organizations is not under the authority of the TNI, because there are rules and laws. But if FPI is already considered a threat to the state, the TNI must crush them,” said Saiful.

On the other hand, Dudung thinks that taking action against FPI members who violate the law should still be under the authority of the Police and not the TNI.

“Until now, we think that FPI still has the authority of the National Police to take legal action against members or administrators who violate the law,” he said.

Previously, the Pangdam Jaya, Maj. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman, was angry with FPI’s actions in recent times, especially after the return of their Grand Imam, Rizieq Shihab. Dudung also instructs, to remove the illegally installed Rizieq billboards.

He also criticized Rizieq’s words which were considered to cause hatred and enmity in the community.

Don’t try to disturb unity and integrity, don’t feel like you represent Muslims, not all. Many Muslims say they speak and behave well, “said Dudung after holding a TNI election preparation for Pilkada in the Monas area, Jakarta, Friday (20/11).
