Govert Sweep collaborates with KNRM for new YouTube series on rescue training and operations

In the context of 200 years of the Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) and with the aim of appealing to a broader audience, especially young people, the (KNRM) has collaborated with online video maker and presenter Govert Sweep (25). Sweep is currently completing the KNRM rescuer training, the adventures of which are recorded in a four-part series that can be seen from today on his popular Youtube Channel.

“I have already experienced how wonderful something like this is with the Royal Netherlands Army. The adventure, the action, but also the depth and the real experience of the profession of a rescuer appeal to me enormously,” says Govert. “I like to fully immerse myself in the world I research, and that certainly applies to the KNRM. To participate in rescue operations, and that is exactly what I want, I have to follow the right education and training, such as a real volunteer.”

Govert has already completed the first exercises. This is the Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) with the rescuers from KNRM Dordrecht, being rescued from the water as a drowning person at KNRM Huizen and a medical evacuation in which he had to hoist a stretcher with a patient down on a cargo ship via a rope ladder at KNRM. Hoek van Holland. In addition, he has already completed a first aid and resuscitation course, obtained his boating licenses and has undergone a sports medical examination. He praises the dedication of the KNRM volunteers, and notes: “There is a certain fire in them, they love action and are socially involved. During a rescue operation you can do something concrete for someone else and that provides satisfaction.”

With his camera, Govert will visit various rescue stations in the near future and take part in actions. In addition to recording spectacular rescue operations, he conducts personal conversations with the rescuers and also interviews victims rescued by the KNRM.

Director KNRM, Jacob Tas: “It’s great how Govert goes on a journey of discovery through the year-old KNRM. His amazement makes you look at the work of our rescuers with different eyes. At the end of the series, the KNRM also has a real rescuer richer with Govert! And in this way we involve a new generation in the work of the KNRM: that is important to maintain safe waters for the next 200 years.

About 200 years of KNRM

The anniversary year is used to raise awareness of the work of the KNRM in all its facets. “From the Search and Rescue (SAR) at 45 rescue stations, the coastal emergency services, the beach surveillance on the Frisian Wadden Islands by our lifeguards and the worldwide medical advice to seafarers by our Radio Medical Service. If more Dutch people become donors or support the rescue work in other ways “, the KNRM can continue to help and save people and animals in need in the future. In this way, we will remain the land of water in a safe way for the next 200 years,” says Jacob Tas, director of the KNRM. More information at www.KNRM.nl
