Governor Kathy Hochul signs Carlos Law into law.

Under the new legislation, a company is guilty of safety violations that lead to the deaths or endanger the lives of workers on construction projects in New York City.

These acts will now constitute felonies or misdemeanors, which could earn the companies responsible fines of up to $500,000.

The legislation is named after Carlos Moncayo, a 22-year-old Ecuadorian worker who tragically died on a city construction site in 2015.

His death occurred because his employers ignored repeated warnings about the dangerous condition of the site.
