Mexico City. Shouting from the podium, where she addressed her “comrades” and made a clean slate of the opposition, the Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, broke protocol in the delivery of the last Presidential Report, in a tone that ended in what was coming: the shouts of “out, out, out!” that the PAN members unleashed on her.
In contrast to the austerity of his speech last year, this Sunday the Mayor devoted ten minutes to a speech in which he even referred to the result of the June 2 election.
At the outset, Mayor Luján did not greet the senators and deputies present in the chamber, for the start of the first ordinary session of the 66th Legislature, where the reform of the Judicial Branch of the Federation will be addressed as a priority.
He only addressed the president of the Board of Directors of the chamber, Ifigenia Martínez, and the “president of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, how good that sounds!”
While shaking her fist in the air, the official referred to the “long-standing” struggle of millions of Mexicans who did not give up, and then mentioned that the Report reflects the “essence of Mexican humanism.”
Until then, the opposition had remained silent, which they broke with boos at the official, who raised her voice even more.
She then mentioned that in the presidential election, “millions of Mexicans decided that the second level of the fourth transformation should continue and that a woman should be the first president of our country, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo!”
From the seats where Morena and its allies dominate the room, cries of “President, President!” arose.
The official said then that “perhaps one of the most important legacies that the president of Mexico will leave us for the future is that, if at some point in the future those who believed themselves to be the owners of Mexico return for their privileges, the new generations will have the recipe, the already proven path, which is that only the people can save the people and that only the organized people can save the nation. The path is democracy.”
The PAN booed and shouted “out, out, out!”, which Morena and its allies responded with “it’s an honor to be with Obrador!” The PAN members did not stop and insisted on a word that they have begun to use as part of their political discourse: “resistance, resistance!”
In the surrounding seats, their recent electoral allies, the PRI members, remained silent.
While the official addressed her fellow party members alone, they mocked the PAN with exclamations of “they want to cry, they want to cry!”, to which the blue and white party responded with “they want to steal, they want to steal!”
The official said: “Colleagues, I inform you that the president has decided not to use his power to present a preferential initiative. As you know, this chamber already has the constitutional reform initiatives that were presented by him on February 5.
“It is up to all of you, true defenders of the people, to make the final decision and decide what will happen. You will continue to make history.”
Only then did the head of the Interior Ministry hand over the book containing López Obrador’s latest report to Congresswoman Ifigenia Martínez.
Shouting again, he exclaimed: “Long live Mexico, long live dignity, long live democracy!”
She then left the room in less than five minutes and was no longer accompanied in the courtesy committee by PAN member Paulina Rubio, who was assigned, among others, to receive her and say goodbye.
