Governor announces payments to Baja California teachers – La Voz de la Frontera

Given the work stoppage by teachers and the risk that the start of the school year will be interrupted next Monday, theGovernor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced that the retroactive salary increase that education workers have been demanding will be paid next Friday.

The state leader said that she has the support of the general secretary of the SNTE, at the national level, Alfonso Cepeda Salas, to ensure the return to classes next Monday.

On May 15, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced an 11 percent salary increase, retroactive to January 1 of this year. However, due to budgetary insufficiency, the state was only prepared for a 6 percent increase, which is why the Baja California teachers announced a work stoppage.

On her social media, the state governor announced yesterday the good news about the payment of the retroactive salary increase to teachers, with which it is expected that classes will begin next Monday.

“In our government, the well-being of teachers is a priority, because we know that quality education begins with teachers who feel valued and well paid, and we will never let them down.

“And that is why I am pleased to inform the school community that we now have a date for the payment of the retroactive salary increase along with the corresponding benefits; these payments will be made next Friday, August 30.

“I would like to deeply thank the constant support of our president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who demonstrates with facts that love for education translates into concrete actions.

“We would like to inform parents that classes will begin as usual this Monday, and the program ‘Pancita llena corazón feliz’ will continue to operate in our schools, ensuring that our children make the most of their education.

“Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the general secretary of the SNTE (National Union of Education Workers), Alfonso Cepeda Salas, for his commitment to ensuring that teachers and administrative staff are in schools carrying out their valuable work. Thank you very much.

“Because in the fourth transformation, education is a pillar that supports the future of our nation. I love you all very much; happy return to school.”

Yesterday, after Ávila Olmeda’s announcement on social media, the state administration distributed a bulletin in which it reported that the governor received in her office Ampelio Íñiguez Arellano and Juan Enrique Villanueva Villa, leaders of SNTE Section 37 and 2, respectively, who arrived accompanied by Raymundo Valdivia, delegate of the same organization in Section 2.

The statement said that the payments and the start of classes on Monday were agreed with them.
