The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jang Ho-jin called Ambassador Kulik to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Jongno-gu this afternoon and strongly urged Russia to immediately stop military cooperation with North Korea and comply with the Security Council resolution.
Vice Minister Jang pointed out to the Russian side, “Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council’s resolution on sanctions against North Korea and one of the parties that led the creation of the international non-proliferation system, should act responsibly.”
He also said, “The government will cooperate with the international community to take strong action to ensure that clear consequences are imposed on any acts that violate Security Council resolutions and seriously threaten our security.” He added, “Such acts will also have a very negative impact on Korea-Russia relations.” He emphasized that it would be crazy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Ambassador Kulik listened carefully to our government’s position and said he would accurately report it to his home government.
Taking advantage of the summit meeting between North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 13th, the government has strongly warned that if military cooperation between North Korea and Russia becomes a reality, it will have a very negative impact on Korea-Russia relations.
