The government’s first move against high fuel costs comes in the form of 80% bonuses for the less well-off. But it takes a couple of weeks before launching. In fact, the executive is studying the possibility of loading that amount onto the ‘Dedicated to you’ card, the social card with a single contribution of 382.50 euros intended for 1.3 million families with ISEE up to 15 thousand euros, for the purchase of goods and food. The basket would also include fuels whose prices, on the eve of the weekend, have started to rise again: 1.995 euros per liter for super self-service, and 1.922 for diesel. For a month the initiative would cost just over 100 million which, according to executive sources, should materialize after the launch of the update note to the Def, expected on 27 September. That will be the watershed after which the second budget law of the Meloni government will begin to take shape. Palazzo Chigi and Mef have been underlining for weeks how the impact of the super bonus weighs on the maneuver. “We have to deal with the chasm of building bonuses caused by Conte, Mr. everything is free”, undersecretary Giovanbattista Fazzolari once again attacked, denouncing “criminogenic rules that have generated billions in irregular credits”. The government is working on a new crackdown on the super bonus, which could see the light not in the next Council of Ministers on Monday but later. According to executive sources, among the various hypotheses being evaluated there are no extensions, but an advance of the decalage of the rates and a restriction of the number of those who can request the discount on the invoice. Beyond the intention shared by the entire majority of making the cut in the contribution wedge structural, there are various directions in which we are thinking about how to allocate the scarce resources available for the maneuver. Giorgia Meloni aims for a leap in quality in measures in favor of families, then among others there are the chapter of pensions, that of schools, that of healthcare on which the opposition is already announcing a battle, and contract renewals in the public administration. Just under three billion euros are expected from the tax on banks’ extra profits, now undergoing parliamentary examination, with Forza Italia which will try to define its limits in the Senate. Notwithstanding this, the Prime Minister has clarified in recent days that the corrective measures “can be done with the same amount of revenue”. While awaiting mediation at Palazzo Madama, former Italian group leader in the Chamber Alessandro Cattaneo defined Marina Berlusconi’s words as “a beacon for the political action that we will have to support during the parliamentary process of the measure”, noting that “the concept of ‘extra margin’ or ‘extra profit’ cannot make sense in a Western country.”
