Denpasar – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno explained the government’s efforts to reduce the high price of airline tickets. Sandiaga said that two factors affected the high price of plane tickets, namely supply and demand.
“The current shortage of supply is due to the small number of planes, aircraft and seats. The government is encouraging more aircraft to operate in Indonesia,” said Sandi when he met at the Tourism Polytechnic, Badung , Bali Saturday (27/4/2024).
Sandiaga coordinated with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Menkomaves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan regarding this matter. He coordinated on a solution to increase the current air fare.
“Pak Luhut said he will increase the number of planes,” Sandi said.
In particular, it will give a break to companies listed on the Indonesian stock exchange. The reason is, so that we can increase the number of planes without going through a long process.
“So this speeds up the arrival of planes until they are operated, especially for destinations in the eastern sector, western sector and also tourist destinations,” explained Sandi.
The government is also trying to provide an additional number of flights. So that airlines have better cash flow after the pandemic with expensive tickets.
Sandiaga also had time to communicate with the flight attendant, pilot captain and ground handling crew. They feel grateful because their income has recovered, so they feel richer financially.
Sandiaga said the high price of plane tickets was an outcry from the public. According to him, this is something that needs to be taken care of.
“That’s what we need to provide tough measures, especially in the rest of this government,” Sandiaga said.
On the other hand, he sees an opportunity to make plane ticket prices cheaper in the future. This is done by increasing supply and keeping demand constant.
“By balancing supply and demand, ticket prices will gradually become more affordable in the future,” he concluded.
