The Philippine government has suspended work in all government offices from noon on April 5, 2023, to allow workers ample time to prepare for the observance of Holy Week. This was stated in Memorandum Circular 16, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by authority of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The suspension of work was made to allow government employees to observe regular holidays on April 6 and 7, and travel to and from different regions in the country. However, agencies that provide basic and health services, respond to disasters and calamities, and provide other essential services will continue with their operations. Private companies and offices have the discretion to suspend work for their employees. President Marcos assured the public that the government is prepared for the coming Holy Week, despite the sudden heat. The government aims to ensure the comfort of everyone and the quick access to their desired destinations.
