Government will legalize hourly work via decree – 2024-05-11 00:56:40

The Government maintains that to regularize working days of less than 4 hours in Ecuador, a labor reform is not required, but rather a ministerial agreement.

In this way, the Minister of Labor, Ivonne Núñez, on May 2, 2024, indicated that the ministerial agreement would come into force before the end of May.

“On May 14 we have the second meeting of the National Council on Salaries and Salaries. In a last meeting held in January we agreed that the country needs more employability,” said Núñez.

The FTA with China will increase work in Ecuador

The government also said that the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement with China will also increase employment in the country.

“Temporary work is going to increase in Ecuador. There are an estimated few thousand jobs because the agro-export sector has to prepare. “It is not an overnight evolution,” Núñez added.

Likewise, he assured that unemployment in the country amounts to 3.8% of the economically active population, which corresponds to less than 400 thousand people.

These figures were specified by the work portfolio during a ceremony to recognize different professionals for their work and career that took place in Guayas. Among those decorated is the Governor of that province, Vicente Auad; doctors, communicators, teachers and businessmen of the country.
