Born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, in Pas-de-Calais, into a working-class family, Brigitte Bourguignon is not “not barded with diplomas” according to its formula. After having worked at the municipal center for social action in the city, she created social integration structures in the region. First a member of the Socialist Party from 1989, she has several mandates to her credit. A socialist by birth, she has been a member of Parliament for Pas-de-Calais since 2012. From 2001 to 2012, she was deputy mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, responsible for the “fight against exclusion, disabled people and early childhood”. At the same time, she took care of sports, in 2008, when she was national secretary of the Socialist Party in charge of this area. From 2014 to 2018, she was a municipal councilor for the town of Marquise, still in Pas-de-Calais.
It takes charge of issues related to old age, in particular support for the elderly at home, the fight against their isolation and the modernization of retirement homes. She was appointed on May 20, 2022 Minister of Health and Prevention under the second term of Emmanuel Macron and took the place of Olivier Véran. She is running in parallel to the legislative elections of June 2022 in the 6th district of Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
