Government: We are not discussing changing the electoral law – What Georgiadis had said – 2024-10-01 11:12:45

“Mr. Georgiadis expressed his firm position and did not make a proposal,” emphasized Pavlos Marinakis.

There is no discussion of changing the electoral law. This was categorically stated by the government representative Pavlos Marinakis during the briefing of the political editors. Mr. Marinakis was asked about the statements of Adonis Georgiadis who was in favor of changing the electoral law so that the Greek political scene would not be Italianized.

“There is no such discussion” said the government representative and emphasized that Mr. Georgiadis expressed his firm position and did not make a proposal.

What Adonis Georgiadis had said

The health minister stated that he does not believe in cooperative governments and pointed to a change in the electoral law. “I am in favor of changing the electoral law because I have always believed in strong governments. My position remains the same throughout time. I am in favor of a strengthened majority, I want independent governments” he said in an interview with Dnews.

“I don’t believe in cooperative governments at all anymore. I have served in two such governments, the Papadimos government and the Samara-Venizelos government, and I assure you that I cannot believe that this country can be governed with a multi-party government,” he added.

According to the Minister of Health, there is “the danger that in the future there will be completely hermaphrodite cooperation governments” if the electoral law is not changed. “I remind you that even the SYRIZA – ANEL Government was a completely hermaphrodite government, since a party of the left, and indeed of the Radical, had collaborated with the Independent Greeks, a party to the right of the New Democracy” he said.
