Philippine National Police (PNP) officials are working to convince Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. to return to the country to face allegations of his involvement in the assassination of the governor of the same province, Roel Degamo. Teves is currently in the US for a medical procedure and has claimed he will not return due to a “very grave security threat” to his life and family. However, the PNP has offered to provide security for him and his family upon his return. Teves is also facing a host of other charges, including unlicensed firearms and explosives found in properties owned by Teves and a murder case. Teves’ camp has yet to approach the PNP, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez has denied Teves’ request for a two-month leave after his travel authority expired on March 9.
