Government together with GIZ improve situation of those affected by tropical storm Amanda and Cristóbal and by the Covid-19 pandemic 20 / JAN / 2021

Around 500 families that were affected in 2020 by the last tropical storm Amanda and Cristóbal, in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic in the departments of San Salvador and La Libertad, will be benefited with food and biosecurity kits, and will also receive kits for the home repair and materials for the repair of water and sanitation systems.

This is an inter-institutional effort of the government of the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele through the General Directorate of Civil Protection under the Ministry of the Interior, the German Embassy in El Salvador and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).

Franklin Castro, Vice Minister of the Interior, received said humanitarian aid from Lena Schwarn, Head of Cooperation of the German Embassy in El Salvador in the company of William Hernández, General Director of Civil Protection.

This effort required an investment of 195 thousand dollars, having identified the priority needs of these families who, in addition to the emergencies caused by climatic phenomena, have also had to face the Covid 19 pandemic.

The humanitarian assistance of this effort focuses on helping families immediately, protecting them by putting into practice the different biosecurity measures, as well as physical distancing.

Among the foods that will be provided are: rice, sugar, vegetable oil, beans, vitaminized atol, corn flour and salt. The biosecurity kit includes: surgical masks, hand liquid antibacterial, alcohol gel and protective glasses.

For the repair of the water and sanitation systems they will receive: water tanks and their respective accessories, plastic sinks and PVC pipes; among other components. And for the repair of houses will be provided to those affected: coastal strips, paddocks, sheet and black plastic; among other inputs.
