The government has decided to recover the pension illegally taken over by former PSC chairman KS Radhakrishnan.
The government has decided to recover the extra pension illegally paid by the Oommen Chandy government. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held today
KS Radhakrishnan, a reader in a government college, was legally entitled to a pension of Rs 23,318. But he wrote a letter to the government asking for a pension at that level for himself, who had served as PSC chairman. But after working as the Vice Chancellor of Kalady University, he submitted a letter to the government asking for a pension at that level. Taking this into consideration, Oommen Chandy increased the pension to Rs 48,546 in the cabinet meeting held on March 31, 2013.
An additional amount of Rs. 8,811 was paid for gratuity and pension commutation. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy took special interest in increasing the pension and other benefits of KS Radhakrishnan, overcoming the objections of the Accounts General, the Finance Department and the Law Department.
In 2016, PA Antony, a native of Edappally, lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister and informed the government that the amount should be recovered after a re-examination by the Legal and Finance Departments. After considering this, the cabinet meeting decided to recover the lakhs of rupees received by KS Radhakrishnan in the pension category and cancel the additional amount.
