Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki said the government would eliminate bad loans MSMEs in national banking.
For the first phase, people’s business credit (KUR) debtors with a maximum credit of IDR 500 million will be deleted. This step was taken to help MSMEs be able to apply for loans to banks.
“Now, if they still have bad credit, they will be blacklisted. It can’t be a loan. Likewise, banks can’t disburse it either,” said Teten at Pos Bloc, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (9/8).
Teten said the number of bad loans at the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) which will be written off reaches IDR 22 trillion. He added that later the requirements for MSMEs whose bad loans were removed would be regulated in a Government Regulation (PP) which was being prepared by the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
Previously, Teten said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had approved the elimination of MSME bad loans in the national banking system.
“Last week, I met President Jokowi and agreed on a plan to eliminate bad MSME loans in banks,” said Teten.
Teten also said that before it was removed, there would be an in-depth assessment of the team assigned to look at the causes of MSME bad loans. The assessment is carried out in order to prevent moral hazard.
