Government Takes Action to Address Insurance Crisis After Urban Riots

The crisis had been brewing for a while; the urban riots brought it to light. The government responded this Friday to the call for help from local authorities. The latter are struggling to secure insurance or are denouncing the surge in their contributions or the termination of their contracts by increasingly cautious insurers.

The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire announced “expanding the jurisdiction of the Insurance Mediator to disputes between an insurer and a community after a disaster”, in an interview with “Midi Libre”. This intermediary could also help resolve commercial disputes according to Bercy, who points out, however, that there is no right to insurance.
