Government Suspends Treasury Commission Session for $700 Million Credit Changes

Today’s session was canceled and tomorrow’s session was suspended in the Treasury Commissionsince the deputies are waiting for a series of changes that the government of Rodrigo Chaves will be made to the credit for $700 million, granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

The previous week, Chaves and Nogui Acosta, Minister of Finance, announced that the interest rate on credit – one of the points on which the deputies had doubts – would drop.

“There are doubts regarding the administrative contracting process, as well as the execution process, which must be clarified,” explained Paulina Ramírez, Liberación deputy and president of Hacendarios.

The money will be used to repair infrastructure affected by the intense rainy season of 2022.

Negative impacts on infrastructure are due to Tropical Storm Bonnie, Hurricane Julia, and the Pacific Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Road network infrastructure, schools and colleges, social housing and even the railway network will receive part of the resources from this loan.

The term of the credit is up to 30 years, with a five-year grace period and must be administered by the National Emergency Commission (CNE).
