Jakarta –
Deployment plan nickel product export tax Ferronickel (FeNi) and nickel pig iron (NPI) are still being studied by the government. This was conveyed directly by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Luhut said the plan was delivered too quickly because the price of nickel at that time was good. Now he said nickel prices tend to fall.
“Now we are preparing. The point is like this, we are looking for a balance. We were quick to make suggestions yesterday because we saw that the price was good. So the production volume remained high. But now the price has dropped,” Luhut said when met at The Westin Hotel Jakarta, Tuesday (9/5 /2023).
“We want to bring the equilibrium. It’s being calculated carefully,” Luhut continued.
On that occasion, Luhut emphasized that the government would not give a smelter construction permit easily. Unless the construction uses clean energy.
“Eat it, now we don’t give permission anymore unless he uses clean energy,” he said.
Previously, the Head of the State Income Policy Center (PKPN) Pande Putu Oka conveyed the matter of the nickel export tax plan.
“This discussion can still be held. What kind of discussion is it going to be, the policies to be taken in the future can still be carried out. The discussion does not need to wait for the results of an appeal (to the WTO),” said Oka some time ago.
Even so, Oka does not want the nickel export tax plan to be associated as a venue for ‘revenge’ for Indonesia which lost at the WTO. According to him, the plan is there to support the availability of supply in the country and generate added value.
