Government signs agreement with the United Nations for consolidated purchases of medicines and vaccines

The Government of Mexico signed this Friday a agreement with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for the consolidated purchase of medicines, vaccines and medical equipment.

Health Secretary Jorge Alcocer explained that this agreement with the United Nations agency is for the consolidated purchase abroad, which will be implemented through this agreement, and whose objective is for UNOPS to provide technical assistance and advise on tenders. of the Institute of Health for Well-being (Insabi).

“The consolidated purchase abroad today is implemented by signing an agreement, the purpose of which will be to provide technical assistance in advising tenders by UNOPS to Insabi, for the implementation and for the acquisition of medicines and health supplies, and thus cover future supply needs, “Alcocer said.

The secretary pointed out that transparency in tenders and the fight against corruption are important for the current administration.

He added that, of the 3 thousand 643 keys or supplies that the country needs, about 2,000 can be acquired through these international organizations, so the national industry is not excluded from participating in the bidding processes that will be carried out internationally with this new agreement.

“However, only those that meet the high levels of quality and honesty that these organizations and we demand can be considered,” he said.

That is why, within this, an annex is included in which the list of companies fined and disabled by the Ministry of Public Function (SFP) appears, as well as those that are under investigation.

Fernando Cotrim Barbieri, director of UNOPS in Mexico, pointed out that in the first phase of this agreement, the management of the annual consolidated purchase of 2021 will be carried out, to continue with that of the following years.
