Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the availability of ISO tanks for supply oxygen become one of the problems in handling Covid-19 in Indonesia.
According to Luhut, currently the availability of ISO tanks around the world, including Indonesia is very limited.
“The issue that became a problem then was iso tanks. Because of iso tanks the world is also limited in number, because there are problems in various countries,” said Luhut in a virtual press conference, Thursday (15/7).
Iso tank is a tank-shaped container that has a certain standard size which is generally used to load liquid and gas cargo.
The Indonesian government estimates the need for additional iso tanks for oxygen distribution is around 140 units.
According to Luhut, the government has mobilized all available ISO tanks. The government even asked for ISO tanks to Singapore, but it was not enough.
“Then we ask other countries like Abu Dhabi and China,” he said.
In addition, the government began to import oxygen concentrators to reduce the consumption of liquid oxygen. According to him, the government has ordered 40 thousand oxygen concentrators.
“We will order up to 40,000, or more. There will be 10 liters of oxygen in this concentrator,” said Luhut.
“There is also what we call an oxygen generator. This is bigger, we need for several people at once to be treated there,” he continued.
Singapore had previously committed to adding 24 units of ISO tanks to Indonesia. The aid will be delivered in stages over the next six weeks.
