Government requests 65 thousand million pesos for the Maya and Interoceanic Train

Mexico City. The public administration requested 65 billion pesos to complete the construction of the Mayan Train and the Interoceanic Train, two of the flagship projects that Claudia Sheinbaum inherits from the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, demonstrates the Economic Package for 2025 that was presented this Friday .

In the General Criteria of Economic Policy, the new administration requested from the union congress 40 billion for the Mayan Train and 25 billion pesos for the Interoceanic Train, projects that are located in the southeast of the country.

The amount requested for the Mayan Train in the 2024 Economic Package, López Obrador’s flagship work that is in its completion phase, was 120 billion pesos, so the new figure is 66 percent lower.

For its part, a year ago the administration requested 21.59 million pesos for the Interoceanic project, which implies that the new figure is 18.7 percent higher.

The Criteria establish a total of 10 priority projects during the first year of Sheinbaum’s government, in addition to the two mentioned, there is the Mexico-Querétaro Train, the AIFA-Pachuca Train, the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo Train, the Querétaro-Irapuato Train, the Interurban Train and the Dairy-AIFA Train.

The remaining two are the Projects to build and preserve the Conagua hydraulic works and the priority projects for the construction and maintenance of communication and transportation roads of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

Of the 10 new priority projects presented in the Economic Package for 2025, five were in the last one that was presented by the López Obrador administration: the Mayan Train, the Interoceanic Corridor, the Conagua and SICT projects, and the expansion of the Train Dairy-Aifa.

Requested amounts

For the Conagua projects, the Sheinbaum government requested 20 billion pesos, a figure 49 percent lower than the 39,475 million pesos requested in the 2024 Economic Package.

Regarding the SICT projects, the new administration requested 20 billion pesos, an amount 43 percent lower when compared to the 35,133 million that were requested last year by the Treasury.

And for the expansion of the Dairy-AIFA Train, the Sheinbaum government requested two billion pesos, an amount 33 percent compared to the three billion requested a year ago.
