Government Representative Lee Investigated for Ssangbangwool Group’s Remittances to North Korea

Representative Lee “Hwamu, Ilhong. “A government that does not fear the people must be judged”… ‘No response to reporter’s questions’

▲ Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, leaves the National Assembly in Yeouido and heads to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office to receive an investigation into suspicions about Ssangbangwool Group’s remittances to North Korea on the morning of the 9th. Yonhap News Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appeared at the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office at around 9:20 a.m. on the 9th, the 10th day of his fast, to be investigated for third-party bribery related to Ssangbangwool Group’s “suspicion of remittances to North Korea.”

Representative Lee, who arrived about 10 minutes earlier than scheduled looking a bit tired due to fasting, said, “Hwamu, Ilhong. After briefly stating his position by saying, “A regime that does not fear the people will definitely be judged,” he went right in without answering reporters’ questions.

This day’s appearance at the prosecution was the fifth since the party leader took office.

The suspicion of Ssangbangwool Group remittances to North Korea is that Ssangbangwool Group paid a total of $8 million to North Korea in 2019, including $5 million in smart farm (intelligent farm) support fees owed by Gyeonggi Province and $3 million for the then-governor’s visit to North Korea.

Representative Lee, who was the Gyeonggi city governor at the time, was booked on charges of third-party bribery. Representative Lee went on an indefinite fast on the 31st of last month, a day before the opening of the regular National Assembly session in September, saying, “I will begin a national uprising against the incompetent and violent regime.”
