* Santo Domingo, Wednesday March 17, 2021.- A Dominican government commission headed by Vice President Raquel Peña received this afternoon a batch of 1 million 50 thousand doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccines, from the People’s Republic of China.
The vice president and coordinator of the Health Cabinet informed the nation that, in this batch, there will be 1 million vaccines contracted with the Asian company Sinovac; while the remaining 50 thousand represent a donation from the government of the People’s Republic of China, produced by China National Biotech Group (CNBG), a subsidiary of the state Sinopharm; and that they are accompanied by 51,200 syringes.
In the case of the doses donated by the Chinese government, the Health Cabinet explained that only 25,000 of these vaccines will be used as first doses and will store the remaining 50%, so that 28 days later they can be used as second doses and with it ensure that both inoculations come from the same pharmaceutical company.
“This batch of vaccines against COVID-19, the largest we have received so far, will be used almost entirely for, as of March 24, to proceed with the application of the second doses to citizens who have already received the first inoculation against the coronavirus ”, explained Raquel Peña.
At the ceremony to receive the vaccines from China, they were accompanying the Vice President, the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance, Dr. Daniel Rivera; the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the country, HE Zhang Run; the general director of the National Police, Major General Lic. Edward Sánchez PN as well as Dr. Jesús Feris Iglesias, in charge of Special Projects of the Health Cabinet.
Peña said Wednesday that the unit price of the Sinovac vaccine from China is $ 19. «We want to thank once, in the person of the Ambassador of China, the Republic of China for having allowed one million Sinovac vaccines and 50 thousand Sinopharm vaccines to arrive today … We are immensely grateful for it is a show of solidarity from the Republic China with the Dominican Republic, “said the vice president.
Vaccinate RD Status and Projections
The National Vaccinate RD Plan has so far vaccinated around 700 thousand people and plans to continue advancing with the teaching and health personnel, both in first and second doses; while they are preparing to receive the more than 20 million vaccines that remain from the purchase and sale contracts signed by the Dominican State.
Vice President Raqquel Peña explained that both she and President Luis Abinader have spared no effort in the pursuit of meeting the goal of vaccinating 7.8 million Dominicans in the shortest amount of time possible, so they are in permanent conversations with different States and pharmaceutical houses, that can collaborate so that more vaccines continue to arrive, and thus be able to continue vaccinating.
