Government reaches agreement on mandatory vaccination of healthcare personnel with transition period from January 1 to March 31

“The vast majority of people who work in healthcare have been vaccinated. We are very grateful to them for that, but it cannot be the case that there is still a small minority who have not been vaccinated. We give these people time until 1 April of next year to be vaccinated. Everyone in care must then be fully vaccinated,” explains Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke.

In the transition period during the first three months of next year, health workers will have to demonstrate that they have been vaccinated against corona or have had a negative PCR test in the past 72 hours. Anyone who does not comply with this can fall back on the scheme that applies to temporary unemployment due to corona.

Everyone will have to be vaccinated from April 1. Non-vaccinated employees are dismissed and can make use of the classic unemployment scheme, while retaining seniority and rights.

The text still has to be approved by the Council of Ministers on Friday and submitted to the Council of State.
