Government Prioritizes Eleven Diseases for Reinforcement Against COVID-19 with Bivalent Vaccines

The Government has prioritized eleven diseases to receive reinforcement against COVID-19, but with bivalent vaccines, while the guidelines for the placement of health personnel are still being defined.

As reported by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), the prioritized diseases are obesity, chronic cardiovascular disease (heart failure, coronary artery disease, valvulopathies, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, pulmonary hypertension, arterial hypertension), moderate or severe chronic respiratory disease (pulmonary chronic obstructive asthma, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, moderate to severe asthma, pulmonary hypertension), type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, including people on dialysis, chronic liver disease.

In addition, HIV, people who are immunocompromised or have a weakened immune system, solid organ transplants or blood stem cells, oncology and oncohaematology patients with recently diagnosed or active disease, active tuberculosis, diagnosed in the last twelve months.

A total of 262,080 doses of bivalent vaccine from the Pfizer-BioNtech company arrived in the country on June 29.

Immunization will also be prioritized for health personnel who work in the areas of management of respiratory diseases with pulmonology, ICU and emergency of all establishments of the national health system. They will be vaccinated at their own workplaces.

Some public sector hospitals received communications about vaccination, but the guidelines regarding what day it will be or the doses to receive have not yet been defined. In addition, doctors in the emergency area had not yet been notified.
