Government Prepares Technology Infrastructure to Live With COVID-19

Jakarta

The government is preparing a roadmap and infrastructure in order to live side by side with COVID-19. One of them is the use of information technology in activities in the community.

“In order to live side by side with COVID-19, the government is preparing a road map and supporting infrastructure. As for the community, we encourage discipline to wear masks, immediately vaccinate and also utilize information technology,” said Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate in written statement, Saturday (18/9/2021).

He said that information technology can play a big role in protecting health and helping people live side by side with COVID-19. Community participation to utilize the technology properly and according to its function is very much needed.

“In addition, the application of health protocols is still the key to the balance between the health side and the economic side. Vigilance remains a concern as long as we live side by side with COVID-19, especially when the opening of activities is carried out in stages,” he said.

“Let’s be disciplined in wearing masks and vaccinating immediately so that we are protected, especially for the elderly group who have a high risk but currently have low vaccination coverage,” he added.

Meanwhile, epidemiologist and senior researcher Kamaluddin Latief explained that the use of technology in surveillance applications to prevent infectious diseases is very necessary. The use of technology has proven to be effective in everyday life in developed countries such as Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.

“This technology application is useful for helping people affected by COVID-19, as well as protecting the wider community from possible exposure. It provides information about the current situation and places to avoid,” said Kamaluddin.

In the country, in order to optimize the protection of citizens’ health, the government has provided an application by the nation’s children PeduliLindung, which can be used as a tool for the community to carry out activities side by side with the COVID-19 virus.

Through this application, the government can quickly carry out tracing so that if there are new cases they can be handled immediately. In addition, the use of the screening function can provide a sense of security and comfort for the public to carry out activities in public spaces, even though the COVID-19 virus continues to threaten.

“Then the most important thing is to follow up on findings from the application. A kind of monitoring and evaluation for the government and the public about the current situation and predictions for the future, not only preventing the explosion of similar cases but also the threat of other diseases in the future. Applications Technology such as PeduliLindung must continue to be used and improved for the protection of the community,” said Kamaluddin.

In the use of these applications, of course, need support from many parties, especially those directly related to people’s daily lives. Among them are the managers of public facilities such as shopping centers, sports facilities, transportation, or those of a religious nature. Managers need to immediately implement the use of the PeduliLindung application as a condition for entering the joint activity room.

The use of information technology is not only for health protection. Support from the digital industry sector is considered important during the pandemic, because it is efficient in rolling out socio-economic activities without causing large-scale mobility.

One of them is the e-commerce industry (electronic commerce). This was also stated by Lazada Indonesia’s Chief Customer Officer, Ferry Kuswono.

“In Indonesia, e-commerce has become the main choice for people to meet their daily needs safely and comfortably. This sector has become a common business strategy axis for sellers and brands when offline businesses are affected by the COVID-19 safety protocol,” he said. .

To support breaking the chain of transmission of COVID-19 by reducing mobility, according to Ferry, his party provides a wide variety of products on the platform. Starting from daily needs, the needs of mothers and children, to health needs such as vitamins and masks.

In addition, his party continues to strengthen the eCommerce ecosystem holistically by conducting vaccination programs in several cities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), courier partners, logistics workers and consumers.

“They are the ones who continue to drive the economy, especially the digital economy, in the midst of these challenging times,” said Ferry.
