Darilaut – The government has prepared two laboratories for early detection of monkeypox. The two laboratories, namely the Central Laboratory for the Study of Primate Animals, LPPM IPB Bogor and the Infectious Disease Research Lab, Prof. Sri Oemiyati, BKPK, Jakarta.
Until now in Indonesia has not been found case Monkeypox or monkey pox. This disease can be transmitted from animal to animal and from animal to human.
Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Health, dr. Mohammad Syahril, said that transmission from animals to humans is through direct contact between animals and humans.
Transmission from animals to humans through body fluids, especially body parts that have smallpox such as around the face or body of animals.
In addition, transmission to humans can also be through the meat of the animal that is not properly cooked.
While transmission from human to human can be through the air, body fluids or smallpox on the face, mouth, hands or on the body. If there is direct contact there is also through the respiratory tract or droplets occur.
“This can also be a source of transmission and there is also transmission from mother to baby through transmission or the placenta,” said dr. Syahril at a virtual press conference in Jakarta on Friday (24/6).
The incubation period for monkeypox is 5 to 13 days or 5 to 21 days. There are two periods, the first period of invasion, occurring 0 to 5 days of high fever, severe headache, and there is a lump or enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, then the armpit, or groin.
Second, the eruption period, occurs 1 to 3 days after fever, rashes occur on the skin, rashes on the face, palms, feet, mucosa, genitals, and mucous membranes of the eyes.
According to dr. Syahril monkeypox can heal itself after 2-4 weeks after the incubation period is complete. This disease will heal itself is not too severe.
From countries reporting cases monkeypox only about 10% of patients are hospitalized.
Until now there have been no cases of death caused by monkeypox in countries that have reported.
“We are advised to remain calm and remain vigilant because this is also very contagious and uncomfortable for all of us,” he said.
What needs to be considered, said dr. Syahril, there are complications, namely secondary infection, bronchopneumonia, and sepsis, encephalitis, corneal infection that causes blindness.
