The evacuation orders are governed by the various areas of the west of the city, where the levels of the Hawkesbury, Nepean and Colo rivers continue to rise, even more so with the 100 millimeters of precipitation that began to fall since Sunday.
The result of the floods has been reflected in roadblocks, partially covered bridges, damaged vehicles and houses, and isolated communities due to the large amount of water in the soil.
“For many communities, this is another new flood in less than 18 months. Some of the images are truly heartbreaking: people’s homes, their lives turned upside down again, and their livelihoods severely affected,” said NSW Regional Government Flood Recovery Minister Steph Cook. .
Due to reports from specialists, who indicate that heavy rains will continue to hit the coast of the region, the Australian authorities have made the decision to deploy hundreds of soldiers to begin the relief work, which includes the attempt to contain the rivers, as well as the continuation of the evacuation process.
It should be remembered that last March, several areas of New South Wales, including western Sydney and the city of Lismore, some 600 kilometers north of the capital, were affected by devastating floods, which claimed more than twenty of lives and caused millions of material damages.
