Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.- During the month of October and within the framework of the commemoration of breast cancer, the Ministry of Health reinforces preventive and dissemination actions in order to raise awareness among the population about the importance of timely detection of breast cancer. this condition.

The Secretary of Health, Vicente Joel Hernández Navarro, pointed out that this year the campaign focuses on “Breast cancer: prevention, early detection and timely treatment saves lives” and to this end, actions are carried out that highlight promoting self-examination from 20 years of age, clinical examination from 25 years of age annually and mammography in women between 40 and 69 years of age every two years.

“Breast cancer in Mexico continues to be the leading cause of death from cancer in women aged 25 and over, which is why it has become a serious public health problem and as a way to raise awareness about what this condition represents, The government of Dr. Américo Villarreal Anaya focuses its actions on carrying out activities that raise awareness, but above all on taking action to diagnose this condition early,” said Hernández Navarro.

He said that for the diagnosis of breast cancer there are 11 medical units that offer free mammography services in the state, such as UNEME DEDICAM in Victoria and Tampico; in the General Hospitals of Victoria, Tampico, Reynosa Nuevo Laredo, Mante, Valle Hermoso and San Fernando; at the Reynosa Maternal and Child Hospital; the Victoria Civil Hospital and Health Center in Tampico; in addition to 20 mammograms that are installed in 16 health units.

During the month of October and under the motto “I Act Against Breast Cancer” and #IActúoContraelCáncerdeMama, talks and wall newspapers will be held in health units, materials related to the prevention and detection of breast cancer; banners and the placement of the pink ribbon in public places and institutions, messages alluding to prevention and timely detection on social networks, lighting of monuments in pink, talks alluding to the topic in different agencies and institutions, among other activities.

Finally, the head of the state Health Secretariat called for people to participate and go to the health units, to the modules that will be installed in different units and from October 15 to 20 at the Victoria Fair the iBreastExam mobile examination unit (handheld, wireless, non-invasive device that helps detect lumps or lesions in breast tissue).
