Government of Castilla-La Mancha Authorizes Acquisition of 600,000 Flu Vaccines for Next Campaign

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has authorized in the Governing Council the acquisition of 600,000 doses of vaccines against seasonal flu for the next campaign in the region, which will begin in October, for an amount of more than seven million euros.

At a press conference, the spokesperson for the regional government, Esther Padilla, explained that those over 60 years of age, the elderly institutionalized in social health centers, chronic patients, those who can transmit the disease to others who have these circumstances will benefit from these doses. of greater vulnerability to diseases and those people who, due to their occupation, provide essential services to the community and who, therefore, may also be more exposed to viruses.

As a novelty this year, he highlighted, the flu vaccine is extended to boys and girls from six months to five years. It is a new coverage that will take place throughout Spain and also in Castilla-La Mancha, Padilla pointed out.

In this vaccination campaign, which will begin in October, the regional government spokesperson did not want to forget about reinforcing the Covid vaccine for pregnant women and other risk groups such as people over 60 and the chronically ill.

On the other hand, the Governing Council has also authorized the contracting of the supply of the monoclonal antibody against the disease caused by the respiratory syncytial virus –the main cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in minors– for 3.2 million euros.
