Government of Bolivia accuses Evo Morales of having had a relationship with a minor | International | News

Peace –

The government of the interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez, presented this Thursday a new complaint against former president Evo Morales, this time, for rape and human trafficking.

The news was released at a press conference by the Deputy Minister of Transparency, Guido Gustavo Melgar.

The case came to light after a police investigation that began in July, when neighbors reported that they saw gasoline being loaded into an official car of the Cochabamba governorate, in the center of the country, which had been reported stolen. At that time, the police detained the occupants, including a 19-year-old girl – Morales’ supposed partner – and her sister along with a driver.

“The police emptied the cell phone and found messages on WhatsApp, photos, between this lady and Juan Evo Morales Ayma,” Melgar mentioned. He added that, according to the complaint, the young woman accompanied Morales to matches in different parts of the soccer country when he was president and “she was still a minor.”

On the eve, the Vice Minister of Justice and Fundamental Rights, Huberth Vargas, assured journalists that the “Ministry of Justice has received anonymous complaints” from other minors.

Morales, close to turning 60, adds a fourth complaint after he resigned from the presidency in November of last year after a political and social crisis that left 36 deaths due to a failed election stained by allegations of fraud.

The former president has open complaints for electoral fraud, terrorism and sedition and – because he is accused of being behind protests that caused blockades and affected the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic – damage to health. (I)
