Government nominates Frank Elderson for ECB top position | NOW

The Dutch government has nominated Frank Elderson for an important board position at the European Central Bank (ECB), Minister Wopke Hoekstra confirms Friday.

Elderson is currently director of supervision at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Finance) considers the DNB director a suitable successor to the Luxembourger Yves Mersch, who will leave the ECB at the end of 2020.

According to the minister, the Dutch central banker is an “excellent candidate”.

Elderson is known as a champion of sustainability in the financial sector in the Netherlands. He was, for example, co-founder of a platform that focuses on sustainable solutions.

Hoekstra confirmed Elderson’s candidacy in Berlin on Friday morning. There, the Minister of Finance of the EU Member States held top consultations.
