Government is in “confidential dialogue” with Washington about Murat Kurnaz

Interior/Answer

Berlin: (hib/BOB) According to its own words, the federal government is in dialogue with the US side about the release of Bremer Murat Kurnaz, who was imprisoned in Pakistan four years ago and then taken to the Guantanamo prison camp. In the interests of Kurnaz and a quick solution to his case, no information could be given about details of these confidential discussions, as the government stated in its answer ( 16/1354) to a minor question from the left-wing faction ( 16/1223). Furthermore, the federal government is not prepared to answer questions about intelligence connections. She refers to the “Report on events in connection with the Iraq war and the fight against international terrorism” from February of this year, with which she informed the members of the Bundestag on the Kurnaz case or, in an expanded and classified version, the parliamentary control committee and all chairmen of the im fully informed the political groups represented in Parliament.
