The Government of Venezuela identified “more than 60 individuals” who are part of “a large criminal gang” that operated from the Tocorón prison, in the state of Aragua (north), which was intervened yesterday, the Minister of the Interior reported this Thursday. and Justice, Remigio Ceballos.
Furthermore, during the intervention in the prison, war weapons were found, such as long weapons, snipers, grenades, explosives, rocket launchers and various ammunition.

“We have more than 60 individuals belonging to a large criminal gang that is part of structures that moved in all parts of the country. That is, we are obtaining high-level information of a criminalistic nature that will provide us with matters of interest for the future captures that we are going to carry out,” said the minister.

Ceballos did not clarify whether these more than 60 identified criminals remain detained and were transferred to another detention center or are absconding.
On the other hand, he stated that “many of those responsible” for mistreatment of other prisoners who, he assured, were subjected to “a kind of slavery” within that prison have been captured.

However, he did not explain if they were inmates who had escaped from prison after mistreating their companions and were captured during Wednesday’s operation, or if he was referring to security personnel who worked inside the prison.
After the operation, the prison was vacated and the inmates were transferred to the regions where their judicial processes are being held, Ceballos said, without detailing whether they were taken to other prisons, police cells or other detention centers.
Ceballos stressed that the State has recovered “total control” of the prison, without detailing when it had lost it or for what reason.
